House Keeping 5/22/18

Short one this week, I don’t have a ton going on in light of the holiday weekend. I’m figuring most folks will be out doing family stuff, so extra blog posts would be better saved for later.

That said, I’ve got the Ghostbusters annual comic picked up, just a couple of months late, plus the first two issues of the Crossing Over mini to review at some point. With that, I’m planning on posting the reviews for all three on the same day, since the annual is pretty immediately followed by issue one.

It’s a little sad, I’m ahead on my reading a little bit, but haven’t had the time to get caught up with the reviewing bit. I’m going to need to just sit down and do them all at some point soon. I’ll be pretty fun actually, I just have to get started going and that’s where the problem lives. Getting started isn’t a thing I’m fantastic at.

Review is going to be a bit late this week. I’m going to have it up Thursday because tomorrow I’ll be getting my car out to the shop to be looked at and will be away from my computer because of that. The AC is busted, and that’s not a good thing with summer looming ever here-er.

Standard stuff then, if you like what I’m doing feel free to leave a like or a comment. It’s always good to see what folks like or not. And, if you really like what I’m doing, you can enable my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. I actually managed to spell caffeine right the first time that time, progress! And, as ever, enjoy!

Up Date

Hey all, I’ve been a bit sick the last couple of days, so I haven’t gotten around to posting this like I’d meant to.

Second Star Books has their website up and running and May’s box is available to subscribe to now. You can find it here.

Since this is their first month in business quantities are limited. Enjoy!

The Best/Worst Update

I’ve been racking my brain to think of what to do for April Fools, but the only things I could think of were mildly mean or utterly dumb. So, nothing on that. No worries there.

The review for Spring Reads week has not materialized due to a complete absence of work/life balance. I’d gotten my review copy on Thursday and managed to read enough of the book on my off day to assume that I could finish it in my spare time on Friday and get it reviewed in time to post. I was wrong, but I’m working on the review now. It’ll be up sooner than later.

Also, the Second Star Books giveaway has ended. They should have their site up and running later in the week with the first box being sent out in the first week of May. The boxes are going to run usd $39.95 per with a flat eight dollar shipping fee in the US. I’ll have a bit about the theme for the first box with the house keeping post for this coming week.

And that’ll be it folks.

House Keeping: 12/15/17

So, I feel vaguely undead. It’s super fun, totally.

No review so far this week. With luck, I’ll have one finished for you all tomorrow night.

I have a plan for what I want to have a review of next week, just as a matter of it fits the season. Also, it’s one of my favorite books to read this time of year.

Much like the last couple reviews, the article kind of things I’m wanting to write are still in the works. I have a lot of things I need to sort through on those and not a ton of time for sorting. There’s a couple of things I’ve got blocked out at the moment, so that’s a start at least.

Today is the last day to get the December Too Much Monday box guaranteed by Christmas, if any of you were looking at doing that for gifts. It’s available through this link and, as always, the code Tympest will get you 10% off.

And, of course, if you like what I’m doing here, leave a comment below or you can buy me a ko-fi and help fuel my poor caffeine ravaged brain meats. Enjoy!

House Keeping 12/6/17

I missed my review last week. That wasn’t fun, but work happened and I wound up having to use my off days for chores and such. The fun of adulting.

So, review will be up tomorrow. That shouldn’t be a problem, I know I said that last week too though.

I did a little digging. The Ghostbusters comic hasn’t dropped yet, there were delays due to hurricanes. So it will either be out the 27th of this month or late next month. Either way I’m happy to have an idea when to expect it. Related to that, the entire five issue arc is currently scheduled to be collected in a trade paperback. Hopefully that means that more Answer the Call comics can be expected.

There’s also a couple new things with Too Much Monday. They’re running a special right now where if you sign up for a three month subscription they will send you a mug to go with your tea. A six month subscription will net you two mugs and, in addition to that, you’ll be able to get an extra $20 off with the code TMMSpecial20Off. Or you can always use the code Tympest to get 10% off your first box. December’s box is guaranteed by Christmas if you order by the 5th.

That should be it. I know I’m losing ground on my reviews again, but I’ll figure something out. If you enjoy what I’m doing here you can buy me a ko-fi or, better yet, leave a comment. Enjoy all!

So, things are going to be a little shaky for the next little bit. The holiday rush just hit at work and my hours jumped pretty seriously. I’ve gone from being off four days of the week to two, which puts me in a better situation financially but is going to leave me with not much time to accomplish things here. Things are going to putter on as best they can, but schedule slip may get worse than usual.

On to other things. I haven’t been able to get a hold of my copy of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call issue two yet. There was an incident, the box it was in got dropped, and I’m going to see if I can’t find a copy sometime this week. Failing that, the shop has it on re-order and I should be able to get a hold of it sometime soon.

The review may go live on Thursday again. I’ve got it partly written but keep circling around with what I’m saying. Not a big fan of when I do that

Beyond that, I’m working on some of the ideas I had from the Nanoshock review. So, that’s something I’m excited for. I’ve managed to beat my old high word count on NaNoWriMo, a whole 1500 words, out of 50,000. It’s improvement!

That’s about all. If you like what I’m doing here you can buy me a coffee or leave a comment.

So, I’m behind in a major way.

I’m having a serious hard time writing my review for Nanoshock. Every time I try I keep spinning out into talking about something semi-related but not actually a review of the book itself. There’s so much with it that I want to talk about and so much that I could say with this book in relations to other books I’ve reviewed in the last year. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve had a hard time writing a review because of how much I enjoyed a book. It’s exciting and I’m not entirely sure what to do with it. I actually want to write a whole lot more than just my review after having read Nanoshock, so that’s something for me to chew on a bit more.

That aside, we are headed into the holidays, so I’m a bit worried about getting more behind than I already am. Still working on that not being a problem, but working on something isn’t the finished thing. Which is, of course, something I’ve been struggling with quite a bit lately.

So, yeah, that’s it for now. I should have that review for you all this week. Should.

As always, comment if you have ideas or reactions and enjoy.

I’m super late with the review this week. This is unfortunate and I am sorry. It’s been a rough week and I’m having to deal with the side effects of plans not landing quite right.

That said, Halloween is still happening and I am still super excited to share this year’s run of Halloween reviews. So, where am I going with this? Last year’s run of reviews were all about nostalgia for me, the trilogy that made baby me quit mid-book out of fear.

How do I match up to that this year? This year I’m jumping into the World of Darkness. Well, more so than I already have. See, World of Darkness is a table top rpg set in a world very like our own, except the things that go bump in the night are very real and it would be very dangerous for a normal human to run into one of them. Depending on which rule books you’re using the player could be anything from a vanilla human stumbling into this hidden world and subsequently trying to dig deeper or escape it to one of the things that make the dark dangerous. Be a werewolf, or a vampire, or an embodiment of primordial nightmares, if you’re willing to do a little digging you can even be a hunter. Ultimately though, whatever you are, the challenge is to find what’s going on and to survive long enough to try and impact it.

At least that’s how it plays for my game group.

Given how much I enjoy the game and that I’d seen a few novels while looking for more source books, I figured I’d check them out. So, that’s what we’re doing for Halloween.

Given that the books I could find were pretty scattered, I’m going to be covering the ones available in The Essential World of Darkness omnibus.  These are also all based on the old World of Darkness source books, so some of the things covered may be unfamiliar for me. That’s all part of the fun though.

That’s about it for right now. If you like what I’m doing, you can buy me a coffee or leave a comment. Enjoy!

House Keeping 10/17/2017

I don’t have a ton of words for this week’s house keeping. So, let’s just jump on into it.

The books I’m reviewing for Halloween are on their way. Last year was nostalgia, so this year I’m going with something that’s both a little out-dated and a little more related to my current interests. I’m excited to see how it turns out.

I’ve got another comic book review for you all coming up tomorrow. It’s a bit different from the one last week, this one’s based on a novel and a bit longer, so there’s more for me to unpack about it. Novels should return next week. I’m juggling a bit, trying to get that ever planned never managed wiggle room going. Always fun that.

Part of me wants to mess around a bit and try doing a few videos, sort of expand on things I mention in reviews but didn’t have a good non-spoiler way to talk about them. I haven’t really decided. Either way, it’s a down the road thing I think. Next year at the earliest.

I never did get the button up, but I do have a Ko-fi account. So, if you like what I’m doing here and want to buy me a coffee, the link is here. Hopefully I’ll manage to get the button posted this week.

That’s it for now.

House Keeping 10/10/17

So, I’ve sort of disappeared the last couple weeks. Really sorry about that. I can’t say it won’t happen again but I am, as ever, working towards avoiding it in the future.

Right now, I’m working on getting things lined up to do the bargain bin comics posts that I’ve mentioned in the past. I have the first comic for that and just need to get it read and reviewed. Past that, I also have a number of comic reviews coming up courtesy of First Second and I’m super excited for the Ghostbusters: Answer the Call comic that’s coming out in a couple of weeks. That’s definitely going to show up here.

I’m still catching up on my previous book list, but I’m also slowly adding some newer stuff in again. So, that’s happening. There will be a review tomorrow, I’m not skipping three weeks in a row.

So, last thing for the week. I’ve been kicking around adding a tip jar or something to the blog. I know I don’t really have the reach or content to justify something like a Patreon, but something. So I’ve set up a Ko-fi for the blog. The link is here and I’ll have the button up later tonight or sometime tomorrow. I figure that it’s similar to a tip jar app it seems to be solidly run.

That’s it for this week. Review is tomorrow. Most Ghostbusters in two weeks. Halloween as we get closer to it.
