House Keeping 1/21/20

Not much to talk about this week.

I have something exciting coming up for the dice review next Monday. I’ve been waiting on this thing to arrive for awhile and I am really excited to test it out a bunch and show it to you all.

Planning on having a book review ready for you all Wednesday. I’ve got a couple I’m working on, so it’s mostly down to deciding which I want to focus on and getting that one finished and polished up. It’s been nice to get back into it. I forget how many ideas I bounce around while working on these.

And there will, of course, be a “Sunshine’s Journals” post on Thursday. We’re getting closer and closer to the end of things and I’m still not quite sure what the DM has in plan for our intrepid party.

There’s also going to be a really interesting guest post on Friday. Definitely worth giving a read.

Got some life stuff coming up soon. It’s in planning stages now, but I want to try and get a little bit of a cushion worked up before it hits so that there are as few hiccups as possible here. How many times have I said that? I’m in a pretty good place for it just now, I’m just going to have to keep working steadily on the things I have partially finished now. Should be doable, but if it doesn’t work out I will keep you all up to date as best I can.

Which leaves us at the usual.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I enjoy seeing it when people enjoy the stuff I write here. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. If you aren’t a fan of that and were planning on dice shopping any way, you can also follow this link to Dice Envy or this link to Skullsplitter Dice, both places have some really cool stuff. Regardless and in any case, have a great rest of the week!

I’m half way through crocheting four or five goblin dolls just now. I get started working on one and then set it aside for finish later. But then later I just need something to keep my hands busy, so instead of finishing the one I’ve already started because fiddlier bits I just wind up starting another one. I swear I’m going to just start using them as decor here soon. Or maybe I’ll hide them around the apartment and see how long it takes my roommates to find them. Either way, things to plot about as I finish work on this batch.

I think I want to see if I can use some of my free time coming up to get a little ahead on some of my posts here. I have a couple of fairly big things coming up and don’t want to wind up with terrible schedule slip again.

That said, I have a book review on the way for tomorrow. I’m not sure how happy I am with it, but I think I might do some kind of compare and contrast with the book I reviewed last week. They’re the same genre and share a number of tropes, so I don’t think it’s entirely unfair, but also it’s one of those things where I want to talk about genre stuff and this is a good excuse.

There is a “Sunshine’s Journals” post coming up this week. I’m pleased with how regular I have been able to be with those. Though we are closing in on the end of the campaign and have been having some trouble meeting regularly lately, so some of my previous schedule slips are kind of saving me here. Trying to figure out what to do after this campaign is over though. I think it’s my turn to DM again for the next campaign, so I will be putting a lot into keeping the world going rather than playing a character within it, which might make writing posts for the campaign a little difficult.

And, of course, I have so many dice to talk about. My Ice Cream Dice arrived over Christmas. There’s some sets from Dice Envy that I wasn’t able to talk about due to time constraints during finals. And I got a really cool set from Skullsplitter Dice that I’m excited to talk about. All fun things, just have to get them all sorted out and ready to go.

That’s actually about it though. My week so far has been pretty good and there isn’t anything major coming up, that I know of, for a couple of weeks .

So, standard stuff I guess. If you like what I’m doing here, feel free to leave a comment or a like. I thrive on positive attention, as most folks do. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. In either case and any case, have a great rest of the week!

Still getting used to it being a new year. A little silly, but it happens every year so it isn’t surprising.

Had a lot of things on my mind this past week. Couple things that I’m not quite sure how to deal with. Couple things that feel so big they might blot out the sun.

Nothing insurmountable.

There used to be a record store in the side of town I lived in, Charlemagne Records, a little shop in the space above a restaurant. It was nice, good selection, well maintained, and the people were always friendly. Walking up the stairs to it kind of felt like passing into a different world, the kind of place where people knew and cared about local rock shows and would tell you about them if you were curious. The kind of place where you could find bands you’d never heard of as well as old favorites on CD or vinyl or tape.

They closed New Years Eve after more than forty years in business, a victim of rising rent as hotels and apartment buildings try to take over that part of the city.

I got to visit one more time before they closed. Found some really cool albums and some stuff I have no idea what I’m going to do with. It was a lot of fun, but in that bittersweet way where I didn’t want to leave but really had no excuse to stay. I guess I’m sentimental like that.

On a happier note, I passed all my classes. I’m sure I’ve mentioned that before, but I still don’t quite believe it. Partly that’s because no one bothered informing me that I had to apply to graduate, so I kept worrying that something had gone wrong with my classes. Just have to turn in my graduation application and get my diploma and everything will be on it’s way to awesome.

Over on things related to the blog directly, I’m hoping to have a book review up sometime tomorrow. It might get put off until Friday depending on how well the writing it part goes. There will be a “Sunshine’s Journals” post up Thursday. And I’m planning on resuming dice reviews this coming Monday. I had a bunch of dice from Kickstarter projects arrive over the holidays and I can’t wait to talk about them!

Which, after my weird stroll into near maudlin reminiscence, leads us to the end of this week’s house keeping.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I feed on positive feedback and stories. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

Part of me wanted to write a year end retrospective and talk about all the weirdness of 2019 in my life. Part of me still sort of wants to do that or something like it, but it feels a bit out of place.

I haven’t reviewed a book here in months, something that’s going to be changing soon I hope, exception given to Yule Love Her because I actually wrote that and scheduled it ages ago I just wanted it to post a thematic time. Funny, back when I wrote that review I figured that I’d have to post pone something else to make room for it or maybe fold it in to some kind of Blogmas celebration like I try to do for Halloween. Didn’t really work, but I have a couple of reviews I want to get written and a sort of comparison piece in addition to them that sort of ties in.

In a bitterly humorous sort of way seeing myself just not being able to read or write anything about books while working and doing classes made me miss being unemployed. I like my job and all but it was the variable it felt like I could have dropped easiest if rent wasn’t a thing.

But then I started talking about dice as an attempt to sort of pull myself out of that and I’ve wound up with a really fun collection of dice as a partial result. It worked for the most part. I’m looking forward to talking about some sets from Kickstarter and the November Originals box set coming up soon. It’s sort of a situation where I can just relax and ramble about something that isn’t likely to have any major faults, something that I can be positive and excited about without worrying about fangirling or if I’m being too hard on a set. It’s fun in a way that reviewing books sometimes isn’t, because sometimes books just aren’t as good as they should be or could be or any number of things.

And, of course, the Sunshine’s Journals posts. I really enjoy sharing those because it’s a lot of fun to sort of dig into Sunshine as a character and figure what she would say about game sessions. Not sure how many of those we have left. The campaign is winding down and, as much as I want to keep playing her, I’m not sure what’s going to happen as we get closer to the party facing Eebaku. It’s exciting and leaves me a little nervous for the party. I’m hoping that after the Caskfire Expedition is all wrapped up I’ll do a better job of fictionalizing the next World of Darkness campaign than I did with the last one. It looks like we have at least one more story in the Birmingham Saga before those characters get retired or move on to other stories entirely.

I think, at the end of the day, I’m excited to build on the things I started in 2019 as well as trying to get back to reviewing more books. I still love what I’m doing here and I want to see what all gets woven into the blog this year.

I guess I really wanted that year end recap after all. I guess there’s no harm in it, but let’s end this on a familiar note, yeah? I mean, I haven’t done this all decade.

If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I feed on positive reinforcement like the Bumpus hounds on a Christmas turkey. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine habit and buy me a ko-fi. In either case, have a great rest of the week and a fantastic start to the new year!

House Keeping 11/15/19

Well, this is late in the week.

Things are going about as they have been. Lots of class work, lots of work work. I can’t complain too much. I think I might be adapting to it a little.

But I’m excited, I traded dice with someone so I get to check out one of the Chessex Lab sets. And also I’m making a crocheted goblin to send off to someone, which is admittedly more exciting because I’m hoping they’ll enjoy it than just because I’m making another goblin. All fun things.

I should have a dice review out Monday. I think it might be the last of my subscription dice for the time being, but it is a really nice looking set so it feels like a good one to end on.

I’m also hoping to have a book review out soon? I’m working on a couple of them but the imposter syndrome is real and none of it feels right. Just a thing to work on for now.

That’s about it for now I think. I might complain about the book I had to read for English at some point, but that would be complaining rather than reviewing.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to comment or leave a like. I feed on positive reinforcement after all. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 11/7/19

Time feels like it’s moving really fast just now. Things are getting really, solidified I guess? The fact that I’m going to have an Associate’s degree and be moving cities in just a couple of months just doesn’t seem like it can be real. It is, but it feels like I’m going to wake up or someone will take all that away.

Nerves right?

Not much to say this week. I’ve got a ton of class work to work on and I’m terrified because finals feel like they’re landing yesterday. But that’s something to keep working through.

I’ve got a set of dice I’m working on re-inking that I can’t wait to show off. Having a little trouble with the d20, but the others look great.

I also got a super cool set of dice from one of Dice Envy’s mystery bags. I think it’s their new Vantapurple set. I’m really excited to try them out. If you’re looking at getting a new set of dice, these certainly look nice and you can save 10% on your purchase this week with the code TOOPURPLE.

Still hoping that I’ll be able to get something worked out with the “Sunshine’s Journals” and dice review posts. That’ll have to be when I take a break from class work some time. It felt good having something to post this week.

And that’s about it.

Standard  stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. I’m going to be consuming a lot of caffeine here soon. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

Happy Halloween all!

So, it’s been awhile hasn’t it? I’m still fighting my way through classes, dealing with work and all that. It isn’t fun, but I’m making it I think.

The Halloween Dice Giveaway is still running until midnight central tonight, if anyone is still wanting to enter.

No idea when regular content is returning. Possibly some time after December finals. Hopefully sooner. I certainly have enough “Sunshine’s Journals” entries to write up and dice to review.

Really excited for dice reviews in the near future. The Ice Cream Dice Kickstarter should be shipping now and arriving sometime in the foreseeable future. Then other dice Kickstarters besides.

On a side note, Dice Envy is releasing the remaining sets of Avocado Toast and Heart Dice sets onto the site. If you’re interested, you can use the promo code AVOCADO this weekend for 10% off your purchase.

And that’s about it. I’m a bit of a mess when it comes to reading lately, so nothing on that front.

As always, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I always dig the positive attention. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. I’ve also set up a page with links to my referal links and to my ko-fi page. In any case, have a safe and happy Halloween and a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 10/15/19

I am officially midway through midterms. Once I’m done with them I’m going to pass out and sleep as long as I’m allowed to. It’s sort of hit that point where the stress is starting to break, so I’m not super keyed up and just constantly want to nap.

Of course, this all just means that I get to jump into the next half of the semester and try to keep up with things better this time. I actually missed one of my midterms because I was looking for them on the web calendar rather than the class page. There was a make up midterm, and I think I did okay on it, but still.

I’m hoping to get the dice review and a “Sunshine’s Journals” post up sometime this week, but I don’t know if that will happen. Fingers crossed I guess?

That’s about it for this time. If you like what I’m doing here, or what I’ve done here in the past, feel free to leave a comment or a like. Positive feedback gives me the warm fuzzies. And of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 10/8/19

So, I am super nervous about a midterm tonight. It isn’t even one that should pose a problem for me. It’s just that the fact that midterms are happening reminds me that the semester is halfway done. And this is only the first midterm, the gate way to the ones that do concern me.

It’s hitting harder than expected. Nothing I can’t handle though. Just have to adjust a little and keep going!

That as a given though, I’m not going to make any promises for content for the next couple of weeks. I have a couple of days off where I might be able to get something posted, but I need to study more just now if only so I feel better about the whole deal.

I’ve got some plans on the back burner. More on those probably next week.

I’ve got a little yet to hash out for those and I want to make sure that I can make them work before I go talking a big game here.

And that’s about it for this week.

Standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here, as little as I’ve been doing lately, feel free to leave a comment or a like. And if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi or treat yourself to a set of dice using my Dice Envy referral code. In any case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 10/1/19

Had my first speech in class today. Talking about putting together a basic Pathfinder character.

I went over.

It’s bothering me some, but that just means that I have to do better on the next one. Given the professor’s reaction, I don’t think I’m allowed to do a speech on brown recluse.

Sad really, they’re fascinating little spiders.

On to other things though! I’m planning on doing my dice review tomorrow. The dice that I was waiting on arrived and it looks excellent!

Hoping to get the “Sunshine’s Journals” post up for Thursday this week. Wound up with my days off being eaten by class and chores last week, so it just didn’t happen. This week though. Maybe.

Still no ETA on when I’ll have a book review out again, which is a little frustrating because I’m still working on one and haven’t touched the book I’ve been reading in a week and a half. After doing the readings for two English classes I find myself just wanting to sit and do nothing most times.

But that also means that, as of now, I don’t really have a plan for a Halloween event for the blog. I’m hoping I’ll get something worked out between now and then because I enjoy throwing Halloween stuff at you all. But unless I wanted to do a book vs web series vs novella for Carmilla, I’m kind of sitting at nothing.

That’s about it for this one.

Standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I enjoy shouting into the void as much as the next person, but it’s nice to see what folks think once in a while. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Either way, have a great rest of the week!
