House Keeping 12/6/17

I missed my review last week. That wasn’t fun, but work happened and I wound up having to use my off days for chores and such. The fun of adulting.

So, review will be up tomorrow. That shouldn’t be a problem, I know I said that last week too though.

I did a little digging. The Ghostbusters comic hasn’t dropped yet, there were delays due to hurricanes. So it will either be out the 27th of this month or late next month. Either way I’m happy to have an idea when to expect it. Related to that, the entire five issue arc is currently scheduled to be collected in a trade paperback. Hopefully that means that more Answer the Call comics can be expected.

There’s also a couple new things with Too Much Monday. They’re running a special right now where if you sign up for a three month subscription they will send you a mug to go with your tea. A six month subscription will net you two mugs and, in addition to that, you’ll be able to get an extra $20 off with the code TMMSpecial20Off. Or you can always use the code Tympest to get 10% off your first box. December’s box is guaranteed by Christmas if you order by the 5th.

That should be it. I know I’m losing ground on my reviews again, but I’ll figure something out. If you enjoy what I’m doing here you can buy me a ko-fi or, better yet, leave a comment. Enjoy all!

As has become usual, I’m running a bit late this week. I do want to have my review up sometime tomorrow, probably tomorrow night but still. Realistically, it might wind up going up on Thursday.

This week’s book is one I’ve been looking forward to for close to a year, so that’s awesome. It’s the second in K. C. Alexander’s SINless series, Nanoshock.

I’ve also got a guest post going live on Friday courtesy of Lesley L. Smith, author of Conservation of Luck.

Immediate stuff aside, I also want to do something other than that one unboxing video with my you tube channel. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t have much cross posting with that over here because the standard free WordPress account doesn’t support video. It’s a think to think on and probably won’t come up until past the new year. But I do want to do something with that just because jumping into a new medium kind of excites me.

I’m also still trying to work out the logistics of doing the Bargain Bin Comics reviews. It isn’t so much a problem of finding bargain or clearance priced comics as that most of them are either later volumes or just all from the same place. Again, this is a thing I’ll probably try some time after the new year, since that’ll give me a little more time to figure out where I’m going with this.

That’s about all I have for now. Maybe something about my glorious six hundred words of NaNoWriMo writing. But that’s a thing for later.

If you enjoy what I’m doing here, buy me a coffee or leave a comment.

So, Halloween did not go to plan. I’m sorry for that, I bit off more than I could chew this year. That just tells me that I need to plan better for next time.

I do plan on reviewing the last three books in The Essential World of Darkness. That’s mostly a curiosity thing, they can’t all be terrible. No guarantee on when they’ll show up, though I’ll probably post them as a second review during normal weeks rather than as the review of the week.

Heading into November, NaNoWriMo is happening again. I’m not sure what to do with that, though I am giving it another shot. I have rambling bits of story started and a vague idea for a start and an end point. Fun times that.

Also, a review will be up later today. Schedule slip is happening again, so I need to fix that.

As ever, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to comment or you can buy me a coffee.

I’m super late with the review this week. This is unfortunate and I am sorry. It’s been a rough week and I’m having to deal with the side effects of plans not landing quite right.

That said, Halloween is still happening and I am still super excited to share this year’s run of Halloween reviews. So, where am I going with this? Last year’s run of reviews were all about nostalgia for me, the trilogy that made baby me quit mid-book out of fear.

How do I match up to that this year? This year I’m jumping into the World of Darkness. Well, more so than I already have. See, World of Darkness is a table top rpg set in a world very like our own, except the things that go bump in the night are very real and it would be very dangerous for a normal human to run into one of them. Depending on which rule books you’re using the player could be anything from a vanilla human stumbling into this hidden world and subsequently trying to dig deeper or escape it to one of the things that make the dark dangerous. Be a werewolf, or a vampire, or an embodiment of primordial nightmares, if you’re willing to do a little digging you can even be a hunter. Ultimately though, whatever you are, the challenge is to find what’s going on and to survive long enough to try and impact it.

At least that’s how it plays for my game group.

Given how much I enjoy the game and that I’d seen a few novels while looking for more source books, I figured I’d check them out. So, that’s what we’re doing for Halloween.

Given that the books I could find were pretty scattered, I’m going to be covering the ones available in The Essential World of Darkness omnibus.  These are also all based on the old World of Darkness source books, so some of the things covered may be unfamiliar for me. That’s all part of the fun though.

That’s about it for right now. If you like what I’m doing, you can buy me a coffee or leave a comment. Enjoy!

So, I’ve sort of disappeared the last couple weeks. Really sorry about that. I can’t say it won’t happen again but I am, as ever, working towards avoiding it in the future.

Right now, I’m working on getting things lined up to do the bargain bin comics posts that I’ve mentioned in the past. I have the first comic for that and just need to get it read and reviewed. Past that, I also have a number of comic reviews coming up courtesy of First Second and I’m super excited for the Ghostbusters: Answer the Call comic that’s coming out in a couple of weeks. That’s definitely going to show up here.

I’m still catching up on my previous book list, but I’m also slowly adding some newer stuff in again. So, that’s happening. There will be a review tomorrow, I’m not skipping three weeks in a row.

So, last thing for the week. I’ve been kicking around adding a tip jar or something to the blog. I know I don’t really have the reach or content to justify something like a Patreon, but something. So I’ve set up a Ko-fi for the blog. The link is here and I’ll have the button up later tonight or sometime tomorrow. I figure that it’s similar to a tip jar app it seems to be solidly run.

That’s it for this week. Review is tomorrow. Most Ghostbusters in two weeks. Halloween as we get closer to it.

House Keeping 9/26/17

So, I’m a bit late posting this.

There’s a couple of things coming up soon that I think you all will enjoy. I’m going to be taking park in pre-release build up for a novel by an author I keep meaning to read. That means giving you all the heads up on a giveaway and getting to host an excerpt from the book itself.

I’ve also got something of an idea for what I want to do for Halloween, though I’m not sure if it’ll work as well as last year. This one’s going to be based more on what my table top group is doing now rather than nostalgia. It should still be fun though, and that’s the whole point of it.

Plus, some friends of mine and I went to see IT today. If it wasn’t a split movie adaptation, with the second movie covering when the characters are adults, I’d be jumping at the chance to do a Book vs Movie of it. Maybe after the next one.

I also figured out how to make the Too Much Monday link a widgit, so that’s pretty cool. Clicking on it will take you to my affiliate link for the program, letting you set up a subscription or just order this month’s box. I also really like that they’ve set it up so you can just order the box for the month, it seems like it would offer more flexibility for the customer. As always, if you’re interested you can save 15% off your first box with the coupon code Tympest.

House Keeping 9/12/17

So, I’ve got my computer cord back. That’s good but only moderately relevant to tomorrow’s review.

I’ve got a guest post coming up on Friday for you guys and another one next week. So that’s awesome.

Not a ton else just at the moment. The Too Much Monday‘s boxes for September ship out on the 15th, so now is as good a time to subscribe as any if you want to lock in September’s box. My affiliate code Tympest will get you 15% off your first box.

I think I want to try doing an unboxing video to go either with or a little before my review for the next box. That could be fun.

Still planning for Halloween. I have a couple of ideas that I’m working out, so there may be more on that next week.

House Keeping 9/7/2017

So, I missed this last week and am late on it this week. Good thing I’m covering it now, right?

So, I’m looking at doing a monthly comic review. Though I haven’t decided between if I want to pick up something new from a pull list or if I want to see what’s in the clearance section of the local book store. Clearance comics is definitely a thing I’ve been juggling as a thought for awhile now, but I’m not sure how sustainable it is. The flip side to that is that I most definitely plan on reviewing the new Ghostbusters ongoing as it’s released. So, this may wind up being a some of both thing.

Still working my way through the backlog, I’m about half way there. So that’s good. I’m hoping to be finished with it soon and be ready to get some newer stuff on here.

I’m also still trying to figure out what to do for Halloween. My original plan had been to try and find some of the old Final Destination books and review them, but they’re out of print and hilariously out of my price range. If it wasn’t for a similar issue I would try and find some of the old World of Darkness novels, since I’m legitimately curious about how well the system would work in novel format.

Also, the September Too Much Monday box is still 50% off of your first box with the coupon code: Tympest. That lasts until the 10th. That makes the first box fifteen dollars instead of thirty, so a little better for trying it out and seeing if you’re interested. The September box includes, in addition to the monthly book pick: A sage apple soy candle, McCrea’s Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Tea, McCrea’s Dark Chocolate Mocha Caramels, a Creamsicle bath bomb, Zoya Hotlips Lip Gloss, and Nail Polish. It seems like it’s going to be a really autumn themed box, so I’m excited.

So, it’s Ghostbusters week! I’m excited because that means that I get to talk about a thing I like a lot several times, plus I have an excuse to rewatch the movie with a couple friends. That’s tomorrow so the Book Vs. Movie post will go up later in the week, probably Friday morning.

I’m still waiting on the Too Much Mondays box to arrive. Hopefully tomorrow. Once it’s here I will likely post my review of it on Monday for thematic fun times. I am going ahead and adding my affiliate link in case anyone wants to check it out.

That’s really all I’ve got this week. I’m on my way to catching up on my backlog of books, not quite half way there, but on my way.

Housekeeping 8/15/17

So, I’m back to reviewing regularly. That’s good and I’m really happy with myself over that. Here’s planning for that to continue.

I’ve got a couple of things coming up soon, so that’s most of what I’m going to be going over today.

First thing, I want to start doing weekly housekeeping posts again. Those let me go over some of the stuff I’m planning and, hopefully, see about including more content based on what you guys seem interested in.

Next thing, I’m going to do another Book vs. Movie. This time I’m doing Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, because I really enjoyed the movie and I’m super hyped for the ongoing comic that’s going to start in October. The review for the novelization will probably drop next week, possibly the week after, I want to post that and the Book vs. Movie post fairly close to each other. Then I’m also planning on doing something with the character work in the novelization as a separate post, probably tied in with the other posts, possibly going into source material and fan work stuff. Not going to lie, I enjoy a lot of the fanon stuff for Ghostbusters: Answer the Call.

Last thing, I’ve been invited to be an affiliate of the Too Much Mondays monthly boxes. It’s a monthly subscription box that comes with a book, some artisan tea, a snack, a candle, and a mystery “pampering item”. The first box for that should be here later this week, so I’m going to be reviewing that in addition to this week’s book, possibly next week’s book depending on when the box gets here. More details on that when the review drops. I’m pretty excited for this, since it’s a new thing.

Full disclosure, as an affiliate I have an affiliate link and coupon code and when someone signs up for the Too Much Mondays subscription program using either of those I receive a book from the program. Both the link and coupon code will be included in my review and, possibly, I’ll post some kind of sidebar thing. If anyone is interested in either thing before the review goes up, just comment and ask, they get you 15% off your first box.
