House Keeping 10/16/18

I’ve fallen behind and behind and behind again. I’m trying not to call this a slump but I’ve been having a hard time digging into books that I’m excited for, much less actually getting the reviews written. Same for some of my other hobbies, there’s things I want to do with them I just can’t muster the energy to get to it. There’s any number of things that I want to get done and I’m planning on digging in on my next couple of off days to focus in on some of that.

That’s plans for my next couple off days though.

I kind of want to see if I can chunk some of what I’m doing into bits and pieces have something smaller to do regularly while I work through whatever this is. Short bits for the World of Darkness posts. Get back to reviewing the odd comic book. Something so that I don’t just sit here stagnating.

That’s going to be especially helpful the closer it comes to the holidays. Work is going to get more ridiculous than it has been. Past that, I’m wanting to get back to some kind of regular schedule.

I want to ramble about books again. So, I guess I’m going to try and do just that in addition to reviewing them.

In any case, standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can support my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that is currently going towards a replacement video camera, I’m 3% of the way there. Regardless, have a great rest of the week!

I don’t have a ton to say this week. The last day of the Fall Into Books challenge is tomorrow. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and will probably sign on for another similar challenge at some point. It also makes me want to try coming up with a post for most days in addition to the regularly scheduled stuff.

Not sure how well that’ll turn out. But it might be fun.

As to anything else this week. I have things I’m working on and that I hope to have done in the near future. I’m working on figuring out what I want to do for Halloween.

I’ve got a couple ideas, but nothing solid. Nothing I’d be entirely happy to post about just yet at any rate.

And that’s about it! Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I’d love to know if any of you have read some of these books or are familiar with the authors or similar writers. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Right now anything I get through ko-fi is going towards a replacement video camera so that I can take another swing at doing video stuff for the blog as well as the standard book reviews. Have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 10/3/18

Been sick the last couple days, so I’m running late on everything this week. What’s new there? But, I’m working on catching up. I owe you all a review from last week, so I’m going to see if I can’t get this week’s review done for late tomorrow and then the one for last week some time this weekend. Failing that, I’m still planning on reviewing the September Second Star Books box, it was a really cool one, so I want to dig into it.

Also, I still need to write that World of Darkness post. It’s part way done, just nowhere near ready to go up. Things should get rolling this week, so that’ll be a lot of fun. My group is a good mix right now of folks who were there for the last campaign and the new guy who has no idea what to expect.

As to anything else that might happen in the near future, I’m trying to finish and review a number of books in a short amount of time. That’s probably going to bite me pretty badly, but it’s worth the shot. I also want to try revisiting some of the older ideas I’ve had in the past, articles and stuff like that. That’s still sort of a long term thing due to time constraints from work. We have the holiday rush coming up fast. And, given how much fun I’ve been having with the Fall Into Books challenge, I’m thinking of signing up for more of those in the future and maybe checking into some of the lists on Goodreads. Lots of things I want to attempt.

Standard things, if you like what I’m doing feel free to leave a comment or a like. Especially with trying new things I would really like to see what people enjoy and what needs improvements, time management aside of course. And, as per standard, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that is going towards a replacement video camera so that I can try out videos as a bookish side addition. Have a great rest of the week!

I really want to get or make a sign for the house keeping posts at some point. That’s sort of occurred to me while I’ve been doing the Fall Into Books challenge and posting up one of their graphics with each prompt. Not that it’s something I have the time for just now, but it’s another thing for my eventual to-do list.

That aside, I’m making good time on my book for tomorrow’s review and still enjoying it quite a bit. That doesn’t nearly stop me from looking forward to the other books I’ve got coming up though, as I’ve mentioned a couple of times here recently there’s a few of them that have me all but bouncing with excitement to go read them.

I also really need to get on that World of Darkness post. The actual first session is coming up this Friday and I’d rather not start out behind. Let’s see if I can’t have that done for Thursday and then start the session posts as a Sunday thing from here forward.

Also, also I still have Second Star Books boxes to review, don’t I? I keep meaning to jump on that and then not getting the chance. Going to have to make room for it here soon.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. Let me know what’s enjoyable, what needs work, that sort of thing. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing, you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that goes towards replacing my old video camera so that I can try adding more to this whole deal.

I’ve been sitting on saying this, because it was one of the things that was stressing me out, but here recently I took the Jones-cat to the vet for her yearly shots and to make sure all systems were go. There was a concern before that that her heart might not be working right. I’m happy to say that, in addition to the very healthy lungs and teeth she was more than glad to show the vet, everything is good. She’s a healthy kitty.

Not that that totally belonged here, but still. Past that, I’m running slow this week both on regular stuff and also on things for the challenge. I should be back on track for both by Friday, I’m planning the review for then. It’s a bit of a mess just now, I know where I’m going with it but I also keep spinning off on side thoughts. I need to rein it in a bit.

Not a lot to talk about beyond that.

The Survive blog tour is still running, so give that a check. You can find the links to the other blogs involved here.

Standard stuff then. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I’m kind of in shouting at the void mode here with the challenge. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that is currently going to a replacement video camera for attempting blog related bookish videos. In either and any case, have a good evening and enjoy!

House Keeping 9/13/18

I continue to be behind on so many things. But that’s a side effect of juggling more than I should.

Just at the moment, I’m enjoying the challenge posts and having fun talking about books I really like. I’m also taking time away from the other things I would do with my spare time, and away from getting reviews done, to work on them. That could be a lot better.

I need to work on my time management. I’ve needed to work on my time management since I was in grade school, but that’s besides the point.

That said, I’ve got the review for the week mostly done. It should go up tomorrow night.  I’m planning on working up the bones of another one on my day off. That should help me stay caught up a little better. Same thing I’ve tried before, though I’m hoping that keeping this on track will help me keep other things in line. Planning and follow through leading to more follow through and all that.

First World of Darkness post will also be coming up soon. It’s going to be backstory leading up to the current campaign, the whos and whats. Our set up session is going to be Friday, then the campaign proper should start the next Friday.

Standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. Especially with the Fall Into Books challenge and starting posting about the World of Darkness campaign, I want to see what you all think about it. If you really like what I’m doing, you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Funds from that are currently going towards a replacement video camera for getting the ideas there up and running.

House Keeping 9/5/18

Not a ton to talk about this week. I’m hitting the point of stress where all I want to do is sleep and binge creepy YouTube videos. Unfortunately, there isn’t a ton I can do about it just now and some of it I have no control over one way or the other. So, I’m doing my best to roll with it, there may be more weeks where I’m late getting a review out or where I just don’t have one ready. But it’ll get better at some point, a lot of this comes from things changing at a rapid pace. Most of it’s good changes any way, so the stress is just from trying to keep pace rather than bracing. You know?

All that said, I’ve got a couple guest posts coming up for you all soon. One is a returning author talking a little about his other passion. The other is part of a blog tour for a new release. I’m pretty excited for both of them.

There’s a handful of things I’m going to work on catching up on. No promises on when they’ll get posted, but I do want to get back to doing more than just this and the weekly review again. Plus, Halloween is coming up so I need to start planning for that.

I also need to get started on those posts I was going to do for the lead up to the up coming World of Darkness campaign. The Pathfinder campaign ended sooner than expected, so I’m sort of having to accelerate my planning. This isn’t a bad thing, I’ve got most of the beginning stuff planned and a plot skeleton, it’s just a matter of getting NPCs stated out and some early game threads for the group to follow written out and solidified. So, I guess, look forward to the back ground posts for this coming up soon-ish.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. This especially with the World of Darkness stuff coming up. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that is currently going towards a replacement video camera so that I can work on video book talks. Have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 8/28/18

I mentioned moving this to Thursday last week. I think I still want to do that at some point, but before that I want to figure something out for an early week post. Also, things remain a little hectic so I kind of want to keep this anchored a little until I have a better grasp on things.

That said, I’ve got  a couple of guest posts coming up for you all. Always fun to see what gets authors started.

Still planning on reviewing the Second Star Books boxes from this month and last month. I’ve fallen a bit by the wayside with those, but I’m still excited to dig in and talk about what gets packed in with them. I think this month’s might have been the most thematically solid yet.

I’m still behind on reviewing stuff, catching up is super slow because I want to read half of everything I come across. I should have a little time to get more caught up on the writing some time soon. The reading itself has yet to be a problem.

That’s about it I think. Standard stuff, If you like what I’m doing you can comment or hit the like button. Shouting at the void is entertaining, but it would be awesome to see if any of you have thoughts on any of the books here. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that will be going towards a replacement video camera for attempts at unboxings and/or video ramblings. Also, I am more proud of myself than I should be for spelling caffeine right on the first try. Have a great week!

House Keeping 8/21/18

Things are a bit chaotic lately. I’m rolling with it, but some times it feels like I can’t get my feet back under me. Lot’s of plans percolating for the future and not a ton I can do just yet to actively prepare for them just yet. It’ll be awesome though.

Fun stuff though. I’ve got a guest post for you all coming up on Friday for A. M. Bochnak’s first Fortitude Rising novel. It covers a bit of her path to being an author.

On another subject entirely, I’m thinking of moving this to later in the week in the near future. Just at the moment I feel like I’m saying the same thing, more or less, every week. It would probably be the same if I did this on Thursday or something, but at least then I’d be reacting to the week rather than just throwing out projections on what I was planning/hoping to accomplish. That would sort of result in my announcing anything that was going to be important either as its own thing apart from this or a week or more in advance. Neither of which seems like a terrible thing.

As usual, I’m planning on having the review up tomorrow. That said, we’ve seen how that’s turned out the last couple of weeks. There shouldn’t be any problem and I think I’ve got it in hand, so fingers crossed there.

Standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. Telling me that you like something lets me know to keep an eye out for more opportunities to work it in. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Any money from that is currently going towards buying a replacement video camera to get the ball rolling on box opening stuff and videos just talking about books or genre stuff. In any case, have great rest of the week!

So, I’m running super late this week. I’ve been sick for a good chunk of it, admittedly, but that’s still no good. I swear, we’re getting fall pollen and summer heat around here.

I should have a review for you all tomorrow. It’s about half way done now, so it’s just a matter of figuring out what I’m actually trying to say with it, getting that down, and polishing it a bit. Nothing big. Right?

That aside, I’m really excited to have won an advance copy of Amy Rose Capetta’s The Brilliant Death through BookishFirst. So that’s a review that’s going to be headed your way in the near future. I’ve read the first few chapters and look forward to seeing where it goes from there.

Beyond that, I’ve got something coming up next month that should be entertaining. A couple of things that should be entertaining if I play it right. That’s for then, though I’m hoping to pull some fun into what’s left of this month too.

Standard closer. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I thrive on encouragement. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from the ko-fi fund is currently going towards a replacement video camera so that I can try getting the ball rolling on video ideas. In any case, have a great rest of the week!
