House Keeping 5/21/19

I’m running late on everything this week. What’s new?

I got the chance to go to a Renaissance Faire this weekend and was painfully reminded that the sun and I don’t get along. It was fun! I got to see friends that live away from the rest of my social group and a lot of really fantastic costumes.

The dice review of the week’s going to go up later today. It’s mostly done, I just didn’t get it finished yesterday.

Book review eventually. I swear, I’ve got more than one that’s in the process of being finished. I’ve just hit that point where nothing about them seems good enough and I can’t exactly convince myself that good enough is good enough.

It’s bad.

But, that’s the state of things for me right now.

Still working on getting financial aid to go back to school. I’ve been accepted, I just need a way to pay for everything. That’s another thing to work on today.

And that’s about it. My car’s back in working order. Most of my stuff just needs finishing. And financial aid is a list of things away from being, hopefully, worked out.

So, standard stuff. If you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. It’s a $3 weekly reminder that I still can’t spell caffeine correctly on the first try.

It has been a week.

My car’s in the shop for the second time in four days. I still need to follow up on stuff for classes. And, I still haven’t finished the review for this week/last week/April.

Good news is that all three of those are being worked on.

It would be better news if I had a timeline on any of them.

I do know that I’m mostly done with the book. I’ve just got to grit my teeth and finish it, I’m sort of living in fear of second hand embarrassment in the last 15%. Kind of dragging my feet on that. Especially when I’ve got another book I need to jump on.

My “Birthday Dice Giveaway” is still running. You all have until midnight central time this Friday to enter.

And that’s about it. I’ve got a couple things that I want to work on, but they aren’t anywhere close to started, much less done.

So, standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I’ll eventually have book reviews for you to talk about again. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here, you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. It’s likely to get eaten up by my car, but any bit helps. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 5/7/19

I don’t have a ton to talk about this week.

I got my acceptance email for going back to school, so that’s pretty cool. Just going to sit over here quietly panicking over that. There’s some things I still need to check in on, but that should be workable.

Dice Envy has their “Your First Set of Dice: King’s Heath” back in stock. Plus there’s some other new sets that’ve just popped up in the last day or so and a couple more dice that are about to land. Definitely excited for that.

Speaking of, I should have something cool dice related to talk to in the near future. I’m kind of jittery with excitement over it.

And this week should be the week that I finally have another book review for you all. I think I finally have my schedule organized and my time managed for it.

But that’s about it.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. I’m going to need it with classes looming. In any case, have a great rest of the week!

We are racing towards the end of the month. Time feels both incredibly fast just now and indeterminably slow. Chalk it up to things coming up some time in the future and very little to mark the days leading up to it. Kind of funny that.

But, anyway, I’ve hit a few stumbles lately. Nothing huge, nothing that I can’t get past, just little things that put a bit of a dent in my plans. Working on getting those dents buffed out.

I’ve got something fun coming up for you all on Friday. At least, something fun for me.

There’s another Sunshine’s Journal coming up on Thursday. Are we getting into the meat of the plot? Are we still messing around with the setting developing? Will Chonck ever learn to read? The answer to at least two of those is a firm maybe.

And of course here is the spot where I note that it’s been two weeks with no book review in sight. I’m working on that. Just not as fast as I’d want. I should have one this week though. I’ve kind of been chugging through the book and getting distracted by other things.

And that’s about it for this week.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. With any luck I’ll have text books to buy soon. In any case, have a great rest of the week!

Things are both rushing forwards and dragging. I’m waiting on the acceptance email for the school I’m hoping to attend. It should arrive any day now and then I can go forward with that, talk to financial aid and all that fun stuff. Plus, I’m a bit behind on reading again. Always with that.

But I think part of that is just falling into a rut again. It’s easy to sleep way too much right now or to marathon a bunch of YouTube videos. I need to set times for myself and just read.

I also need to look up the care and keeping of roses, but that’s a somewhat more immediate thing. It’s going to have to sprout roots first, but I’ve got a really nice cutting from one of my Dad’s rose bushes and I want to see if I can get it to grow.

On an aside from all that though. There was a bit in the book I’m reading just now that reminded me of something I’d read awhile back. Some folks mentioned in a thread that something they loved in fan fiction that regular published books don’t have was the tagging system that places like Archive of Our Own use. That they liked to be able to look at the tags and sort out what kinds of tropes and story bits they wanted to dig into or avoid. Part of the discussion there was trying to get a tagging system sorted for novels on the readers’ end of things. I know there’s supposed to be something like that on Goodreads, but I’m also considering starting to include a tags section after my reviews for stuff that seems notable. Like if there’s a left turn into romance novel territory or if an author kills the cat. Just stuff that seems worth mentioning but wouldn’t necessarily go in my review on its own. I’ll probably play with it a bit in the next few reviews and see how I think it works.

I have an author guest post coming up for you all on Friday. Those are always exciting.

There’s a couple of ideas I have for things I want to do later in the year, but I need time for them to simmer and come together a little better before I talk too much about them.

This week’s Sunshine’s Journals post is being interesting to write. It’ll be even more so going forward I think.

And that’s kind of it for this one. I’ve got dice on the way soon, they’re likely going to be reviewed some time in May. There’s a bunch of books I need to get reading and a bunch more all the time. And I’m trying to adjust my pace to keep up with that.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. There’s things I want to try but I don’t know how interested anyone would be in them. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. It’ll get eaten up with text books real soon. In any case have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 4/16/19

Not much to talk about again this week. Not much isĀ  changing at the moment.

There are a couple of things to the side of my blog here that I want to mention.

First thing, the May Second Star Books box is going to be the last of their monthly boxes. As it turns out the monthly candle box that they do has been super successful, so that will still be running and the quarterly book box will still be running. It was apparently a matter of things being a lot more successful than was expected and I’m glad for that. The bi-annual candle sale is also coming up soon, so definitely keep an eye out for that. You can check them out here.

Second thing, while I’m not sure how many of you are here for the dice reviews I did want to also mention this one. But Dice Envy is currently running a Kickstarter for wooden dice. I think that’s pretty cool and if you’re interested you can find it through the link here.

Following those, I don’t have a lot to say.

I’m behind a bit on my reading, so the review might be late this week. Not sure by how much, but it shouldn’t be bad.

There will be a “Sunshine’s Journal” post this week, but it’s being a bit maddening to write. Things went sideways and I’m not entirely sure how to words that out.

And I’m still working on getting back to school. Which is something that I am very much looking forward to and also terrified of.

That’s about it.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. It makes me feel less like I’m screaming into the void. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. It’s probably going to go towards text books or classes. In either case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 4/9/19

Not much to talk about this week.

I’m going to be posting the review that was supposed to be for last week this Wednesday. Pollen absolutely kills me and there is so so much of it around here.

Dice reviews are still rolling along. I’m really excited to keep that going, since it makes Mondays a touch more fun.

Speaking of, game night is on for this Friday, so next week should have a Sunshine Journal entry. I’m pretty excited to see where things go from where we last left off with the human ambassador coming in and that goblin encampment having been destroyed.

That said, I’m going to have a place holder post for this Thursday. Still haven’t figured out what exactly, but I’m kicking around a couple ideas.

School stuff is still in the works. I’m getting closer to having things all lined up and ready to go.

And that’s about it. The roommates and I are gonna see Captain Marvel today, so I’ve kind of got that and not a lot else on the brain.

So, standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. It’s going to be going to text books soon. Either way, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 4/2/19

Happy Tuesday everyone! It’s been a quiet past week, so this one should be short.

Most of what I’m trying to figure out just now is to do with the Monday dice reviews. So far I’ve been giving each set an out of five rating, but dice are a lot more difficult to review for quality and enjoyment than books are. Largely that means that as long as the dice don’t have any obvious casting issues and I like them, which let’s be real I like most dice, they’re going to have a four or five out of five. That feels, disingenuous isn’t the right word, but it feels like I’m just making stuff up for it to be a review. So, I’m considering removing that bit and just rambling about dice on Mondays.

Tangentially related, in addition to not having game this week there’s also not going to be a Friday night game next week either. So, that’s two weeks of no Sunshine’s Journal posts. I’ll find something to do on Thursdays regardless. Probably something I’ve already been working on that needs a time to go up.

Related to Thursday, this Thursday is the last day for the Odd Voice Out giveaway. So, if you’re interested in checking out Fallow Heart or Shrinking Sinking Land. Give it a look, there’s lots of options for entries.

Let’s see, I’ve got a review planned for Wednesday. So that’s pretty locked in. Then I’ve got a number of books I’m wanting to finish reading. Those will be for later reviews, but I’ve still got to get back to them.

And that’s it for this week. I’ve got some stuff I’m still needing to work on. It’s going slow, but it’s going. And I’m, of course, still working on getting back into school. Wish me luck on that.

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a Ko-fi.

House Keeping 3/26/19

Keeping rolling. I’ve cracked open one of the books I’ve been sitting on and am really enjoying the concept of it and the writing so far. Soon I need to get my transcripts together to apply for classes, the sooner the better.

Running off from that for now. I’m on schedule to have a review on Wednesday, so hopefully I’ll be back to the old schedule soon. I’m probably going to see what I can do about reading some of my back log of books, both review copies and stuff I’ve bought. Fun stuff, fun stuff.

I’m back to where I’m enjoying reading and that is a massively good feeling.

Though, on the topic of fun stuff. While this week will have a Thursday post for Sunshine’s Journals, next Thursday probably will not. I’m going to have to work out what I want to do then. I’ve got a couple ideas though, it’ll just depend on what goes on.

Semi-related to that. Because I am fantastic at segues. Dice Envy has a new set of dice listed for their “Your First Set” dice. It’s a nice royal purple with gold lettering set. So, if you’ve been looking to get into Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder, give it a look.

I’m rambling a bit, but it’s all in good fun.

Quick heads up, the giveaway for an ebook copy of K. C. Finn’s Fallow Heart or Kell Cowley’s Shrinking Sinking Land is still running. You’ve got nine more days on that, and the rafflecopter can be found here.

And that brings us to the sign off. Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. I’m trying a few new things, so feed back would be awesome. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing here you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. Anything from that just now is probably going to go towards text books. In any case, have a great rest of the week!

House Keeping 3/19/19

Alright, working on getting back to a regular schedule. I’ve finished the book I’ve been dragging my feet on. I’ve got my notes for the review jotted down. Now I’ve just got to stitch it all together and get a finished review out of it.

Nothing to worry about.

Any thoughts on the dice review? I had a lot of fun with that and definitely plan on doing more of those. Some for new sets, some for sets that I’ve already got, I feel like it’s going to be a nifty mix of things.

Plus it gives me an excuse to ramble about the shiny things.

I’m also planning on doing some test rolls with that set and posting that to Youtube. It’s a little goofy, but I feel like it’s easier to show how well a set of dice roll than it is to just say it.

I’m feeling good about getting things done just now. Going to try and get more work done on other projects I’ve talked about here. Trying to stop being all talk and get things done.

That said, we didn’t have D&D this past Friday, so I don’t have another entry for Sunshine’s journal. I do have a couple of ideas for a Thursday post despite that. One is part of something I’ve been dragging my feet on the last couple of months. The other is doing a little coverage of the game we did run on Friday. I haven’t done enough with it for a full review of the system, but I can roll through a little of it.

So, yeah, current goals are to get some of the things that I’ve talked about here recently done. That’s the “And Another Thing” articles, the reviews I’ve been twiddling my thumbs on, the box opening videos for the January and February Second Star Books boxes, and the reviews for those boxes as well. I’m really wanting to get those videos done, since that’s going to give me some experience with the video editing software I’ve got. They may not be timely, but I think it’ll be worth it for the chance to fiddle around with the software.

And that’s about it!

Standard stuff, if you like what I’m doing here feel free to leave a comment or a like. Especially once I’ve got some of this stuff going up on a semi-regular basis, it’ll be good to see what people like or dislike. And, of course, if you really like what I’m doing you can feed my caffeine addiction and buy me a ko-fi. In either case, have a great rest of the week!
